Edited by David Deese
Extract
This chapter examines the trade barriers developing societies confront when they attempt to promote economic growth by exporting to advanced countries. The discussion focuses on the nature of the most frequently used protectionist barriers, some consequences of those barriers, and how effective developing countries have been when they turn to the World Trade Organization (WTO) to limit the effects of those barriers. American and WTO regulations are examined when appropriate to provide a reference point for the discussion.
