This chapter presents the assessment of water scarcity and water stress in the Southeast Asia region, looking at different dimensions as well as various indices or measures. The water security situation in the region is described in the context of rapid urbanization as well as the attendant increase in population, migration and technological developments. Competition and tradeoffs among multiple uses of water in the Southeast Asia region are also described. The challenges and threats posed by environmental changes, including climate change, are also discussed while the challenges and opportunities related to water security and water resources governance in the region are presented.
