Chapter 5: The SATSport model: an applied and adaptive approach to grassroots sport organisations’ governance arrangements
In local contexts and at an international level (especially European), sport organisations have reached a high level of visibility and interest among a range of stakeholder groups and in sectors not directly related to sport.Sport is now at the centre of an ecosystem of social innovation that is characterised by wider and more diversified interests and multiple opportunities, which inevitably brings the efficacy and ethics of organisational and governance models under scrutiny. Following on from the emergence of political and corporate governance in the late 1980s and early 1990s the notion of sound governance in sport organisations has been a relatively recent development, especially at the grassroots level.On this basis, there is a need to define a typology forthe sport governance landscape, identify tools that can help to steer and shape sport organisation governance and, finally, consider the implications for leadership practice at this important level.
