This chapter explores the convergences and divergences between critical development studies and critical agrarian studies. It is argued that critical development studies and critical agrarian studies share a fundamental concern for understanding the systemic dynamics of capitalism, and the belief that social reforms at the level of policy and institutional development will not suffice to bring about transformative change in the direction of social and environmental justice that is both sustainable and inclusive. Critical development studies and critical agrarian studies provide complementary critical perspectives on the development and resistance dynamics of capitalism, which enriches the field of development studies.
