Chapter 6: How to introduce and integrate creativity
Creativity as a graduate attribute is growing in demand among employers. However, the notion of creativity is widely misunderstood and viewed as a trait and a talent possessed by exceptionally gifted individuals. Research has established that creativity can be harnessed and developed among students through learning and development processes. This chapter is aimed at raising consciousness and presents a reflection on creativity by offering some guiding principles for business educators - to develop their motivation to explore and engage with creativity; to develop interest in building their capacities to support students with improving creative thinking skills and abilities; to support with ideas for stimulating thinking for designing of curriculum; and to work towards developing a supportive institutional environment. Besides addressing organisational needs, creativity should be harnessed for common good, and it is incumbent upon educators to recognise and explicitly integrate creativity in learning and teaching practice.
