Chapter 13: Making teaching relevant for the business student
Why do I need to learn this? Is it going to be included in the assessment? Students often ask these questions, frustrating the teacher who can see the value in the subject being taught. This chapter gives suggestions of ways to make the teaching clearly relevant to students. It suggests ways of linking the content to personal experience, topical issues and the real world. It debates what ‘useful’ information might be, and how to encourage students to think broadly about what information is going to be used by them in the workplace. The chapter concludes with ideas for ways to make assessment relevant, so that students gain real benefit from completing the work.
