Abstract

Festivals thrive all over the world. They have arisen mainly as a reaction to the severely constrained traditional artistic venues that are often strongly subject to tradition and bureaucratic restrictions, and are committed to fixed venues. Festivals are to some extent able to overcome the cost disease of the live performing arts, partly by choosing new locations outside established venues. Festivals also cater well to the demand of tourists during the summer season.
